I know what you're wondering. Why am I reviewing a DLC? Well, its not just a DLC. Being an add-on to a great game, surely the DLC is just a small support for the game itself. I just want to say, its more than that too.
Overview: Undead Nightmare is a DLC to Red Dead Redemption by Rockstar Games. The DLC added undead-related content to the game (maybe zombies is our current generation craze). The game received very positive reviews and actually isn't really expensive (its a little cheaper than Minecraft Alpha.)
Plot: The DLC adds a whole new campaign, something like Dead Rising: Case 0 (I never played it though), but still in the same environment. Its about John Marston after he has his family back. Apparently, Marston's ranch caretaker, "Uncle", became a zombie and attacks John's wife, who attacks John's son. John ties up his zombified wife and son and sets out to find out what's going on, as well as a cure. John will also meet other main characters from the main game, also trying to cope with the new undead environment. Even some have became zombified too. Other than the new campaign, it also addd new features to the multiplayer, like Undead Overrun, a multiplayer feature where some four players have to defend themselves against zombies in an open environment. It also features land grab, which players must hold an area for a certain amount of time, fending off attackers.
Gameplay: The new campaign was slightly different from the main game. Zombie packs can be found randomly, towns can be overrun, ammunition is scarce, bounties are replaced with missing people, animals become undead, new activities and others. The controls are still the same, though with zombies, its either harder or easier. The easy part is that zombies are slow, but repetitive. The hard part is... well, unless you suck really hard, its hard. The zombies aren't really that fun in the game, since you have dead eye and you don't feel that helpless. There are also new things you can do, like capturing a zombie so that a stranger can research on it, kill people turning into zombies, saving someone from zombies, and others. Its a good reason to go back to Red Dead Redemption. For Undead Overrun, it was more intense. Lots of zombies comes in Waves. Unlike Nazi Zombies, there is a box that only one person can pick up to get a new weapon, a certain class to pick, and after a certain time limit, reviving is impossible during the entire game. It feels more helpful and helpless at the same time. I haven't played Land Grab yet, but I do know its similar to Domination in BFBC2 and Call of Duty.
Visuals: Its still like Red Dead Redemption. Super polished and nice to watch. Its also very different from the old game. Not for the while, but for the new models. Zombies look a little different from the normal people, undead animals look more bloody, and mythical creatures also look good. Now, instead of the reddish theme for the menu and map, its more green and slightly purple.
Audio: Its also still good. Being a DLC, the game's voice acting is still astounding. There are three different types of zombies, and there is different sound effects for them, even differentiating male zombies from female zombies. The undead animals also had slightly new sound effects.
Reception: The game had positive reviews, and gamers still loved it. The flaws for this game is that the story isn't as compelling like the old game and the zombies are too easy, though there is still a variety. The game is still fun to play and addicting like the main game. The DLC even received the award of being the best DLC of 2010. It was that good.
Conclusion: The game still had a good experience like the main game. It couldn't totally match up to the main game, since it was less exciting. However, it blew away all expectations and is really fun and hyped before it came out.
Final Judgement: 9/10
