Overview: Black Shades is a game released in 2002 (now freeware) by Wolfire Game. It has an outdated gameplay but still a little fun. It is kind of hilarious, but in this review, I'm just gonna sum this game up.
Plot: The game is about a psychic bodyguard having to protect a VIP. The VIP is apparently over-confident, so he just walks normally. Assassins would want to kill him real bad, so you just have to use your weapons to kill them, and even use psychic powers to help you.
Gameplay: There is no tutorial for start, so I had no idea what I had to do first. The controls are in a Readme, but I posted it on RegioNited already in the Black Shades download in the replies. Anyway, the aiming system is an advantage and a disadvantage. It uses to the "ctrl" button to aim, usually the right mouse. This however, helps laptop users, especially Macbooks. The game tends to have bugs too, like freezing in place but can still rotate.
Visuals: The game uses blocky graphics, which is great for the simplicity it intended. They also used an infinite city design. The blocky graphics aren't great, but its still simple and enjoyable to watch while playing.
Audio: They tend to keep using the same song all the time (with the exception of the title screen and the zombie levels). Maybe if they changed the song for different levels, it might work. For the sound effects, they are kind of working. The sounds are appropriate to their weapons, movement sounds work.
Reception: Though it may have mixed reviews, it did won an award. The good part of it was that it was simple, fun and indefinite. The negative was that it lacked a tutorial, buggy, and clunky controls.
Conclusion: The game had simple graphic and is fun to play. The idea of a psychic bodyguard is pretty creative. The controls are clunky, though at the same time gives alternatives. The game is buggy on many occasions, the music is repetitive but not annoying, but the sound effects are okay.
Final Judgement: 6.5/10
